Getting to Know Your Wimax Antenna from the Inside and Out

Have you ever wondered how the Wimax antenna look like from the inside? Well, of course we are always curious so I dissambled one, because I  myself have been mystified by this white rectangular box being attached on a pole and placed on the roof whenever a Globe Wimax Internet is being installed.
Before I show you what I found, let's look at the detailed product descrption:

Now, with the data from the table above, it works at 2.5 GHz with a 14dbi gain. This is a standard antenna issued by Globe Telecom for its Wimax Broadband Internet product.

This antenna is good within 2-5 kilometer distance from the Node. A 22 dbi antenna gain is suggested over 5 kilometer distance.

Now, let's see what's inside the Wimax Broadband Antenna:

The image shows the inside of the Wimax Antenna. It is made of a square double sided PCB where the main antenna element is etched. It is encased in a hard plastic material with a sturdy aluminum backing with four protruding nuts and bolts where the bracket and U-Clamp is attached.

This piece of equipment is really simple, but a crucial component. There are better ones than this with 22 dbi gain. The higher the antenna gain, the more sensitive the antenna becomes. This in turn greatly increases the efficiency of the RF signal receipt and transmission. Having said that, good signal depends on a good antenna.

  1. Thanks for the info. Buyers should know what this product can or can't do for their intended use. Some users talked about the low quality cable provided and at 15m length, significant signal loss occurs. Just shorten the cable for better performance.
