Project Overlord, Speed Up When You Need It!

It's been quite sometime since my last post and this time I' gonna say something about Project Overlord. This is just a short one, so bear with with me.

Speed Boost is an option where customers choose the usual time they do their stuff on the internet. The Speed Boost option or 'Add-On" is categorized into three (3) time frames daily. For example, DAY is from 10am to 2pm, NIGHT is 10 am to 2 am  and INSOMNIAC is from 2 am to 6 am. These three time frames is what we call Speed Boost Option.

Project Overlord on the other hand is a protocol that defines how Speed Boost is incorporated into new subscriptions. Having said that, this is where customers choose what Speed Boost they would want to avail and test it out for 1 month FREE. The Add-On can be terminated at any time before the end of the billing cycle to avoid additional charges.

Brgy. Cadaratan A Wimax Dead Zone? An Aerial Survery Proves It

I've been quite cynical about an area which I believe is fully covered by Globe Wimax in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte. The barangay in question is Brgy. Cadaratan. This barangay is located along the Philippine National Highway and is largely surrounded by farmlands. No apparent obstruction can be immediately noticed in this area.

Brgy. Cadaratan is one of my regular market routes and have had successful Wimax Installations until an applicant who's house is located in this what they call a dead zone. To my surprise, full attenuation! Not even a slight indication that a signal could be detected in this zone. It left me wondering why until I consulted Google Maps and here's what I've found.

A Globe Wimax for Every Home, Project Beyond is Here Once More

Applicants in areas no longer covered by the GEMS map can no longer  avail of Globe WIMAX. This limitation was put in effect last year and is still effective. Due to the growing demand for Globe WIMAX service in uncovered areas, Mr. Stephen Palma Territory Sales Head (TSH) of Globe Broadband North Luzon brought the issue to the attention of Mr. Law, Area Sales Head (ASH) for Globe Broadband North Luzon during the monthly MOR's in Baguio City.

The resulting conference approved a project we call Project Beyond. This ongoing project for the month of July extends the 1Km coverage area in several qualified areas in Ilocos Norte to 2 Km aerial distance from the nodes in the following areas: Bacarra, Batac City and Badoc.

If your prior application was refused before maybe this is the right time to apply once more. The duration of the project might be a month only so why not apply today. Call me and I'll gladly take that call.

For over two weeks now, Internet connectivity has become intermittent especially in areas outside the guaranteed 2 kilometer radius coverage area. Old subscribers prior to the implementation of the GEMS Map or serviceable areas are at risk due to lack of service support extended to them due to newly implemented service coverage area.

During the two week period until now, I have noticed on several occasions an entire sector go down unexpectedly. A node (Globe Tower) is divided into three sectors. Now Wimax connections in certain areas are connected to one sector and any sector going down stresses the system further as the modems connect to another sector. If this happens, currently connected wimax modems abruptly disconnects to give way to the incoming connections from the other sectors.

Update on Globe Broadband DSL Installation Fee

Prior to this update, Globe broadband Installation fee is only P500 irrespective of the plan. This however changed as Globe Telecoms aims to upgrade the quality of its subscribers.
Starting this month (June 2012) the new installation fee for Tattoo@Home DSL is P1000. A P500 advance installation payment will be collected during the installation and the rest will be charged to bill in 3 monthly installments.

A client once complained to me, "When you installed my Wimax, the signal was very good, but now I only have one bar." Then I continued to ask him when was your Wimax connected? He replied "Oh it's been two years from now!"

This casual conversation prompted me to inspect his antenna and modem. I performed several tests and found out that nothing is wrong with the devices. I went out and found out that a tree had grown in two years time between the Node (Globe's Antenna Tower) and his Wimax antenna. So it's very obvious that the signal quality degraded in time due to a blockade caused by the tree.
